Education
Bill’s education includes a B.A from McMaster University (1975, Hamilton, Ontario) and a BA from the University of Toronto (1976, Toronto, Ontario).
Work History
His working history is almost exclusively with Dofasco Inc., (now ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc.) located in Hamilton, Ontario where he has worked for 34years. His work history includes:
- 7 years in the Non Destructive Testing Department (performing radiography, ultrasonics, magnetic particle inspection, dye penetrant inspection, laser measuring and infrared photography)
- 20 years in the corporate Quality Systems Department (coordinating various corporate programs; ISO 17025 Laboratory Management, ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management).
- 5 years as an Environmental Program Coordinator.
He has audited quality and laboratory management systems professionally for Steel Related Industries (SRI) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (SRI), International Approval Services of Cleveland, Ohio (IAS), Quality Management Institute of Toronto, Canada (QMI) and Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation (PJLA) of Southfield, Michigan.
Family History Interests
Bill’s personal genealogy is centered in the British Isles. His paternal grandparents are both from London England, and his maternal grandparents from Glasgow and Dublin. His ancestors came to Canada about 1900. His wife has German-Canadian ancestry. Her ancestors came to Waterloo County, Ontario in the 1830s.
He served as a Family History Center librarian for 2 years and then as the Family History Center Director for 6 years in Hamilton. He also served on the executive of the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.
He co-authored; Ignatius N Ditner (1793 – 1883) – the family history and descendants of a German immigrant who came to Waterloo County in 1837.
He co-edited; The Descendants of Conrad Dorsch and Barbara Lunz – the family history and descendants of Conrad Dorsch who came to Waterloo County in 1836.
